Before Week 1

Your web coding space

Build your webpage here in the lesson. Nothing needs to be installed or opened in another editor.

Meet the editor

Three files, one webpage

  1. index.htmlAdds and organises your page's content.
  2. style.cssChanges colours, fonts and appearance.
  3. script.jsAdds actions and makes your page interactive.

Choose a file tab to edit it. The editor connects all three files for you. In the first lessons, it is fine to leave CSS and JavaScript empty.

Try it

Make your first webpage

Change the friendly message below, then select Run my code.

Coding space

Edit index.html for your webpage’s content. Select the tab you want to edit, then select Run my code to see your changes in Preview. Your changes save separately for this activity in this browser.

Tab indents. Esc then Tab leaves the editor. Ctrl/⌘ + Enter runs your code.

PreviewYour webpage
What will you create?

Select Run my code to see your webpage here.

Try, change, run again

  1. Select Run my code to see your page in Preview.
  2. Change Hello, web! to another friendly message.
  3. Select Run my code again. What changed?
  4. Use Stop to close the running preview while keeping your code.

Reset example puts back the original code for this activity after you confirm.

Keep your work

Edits save automatically for each activity in this browser on this device. Return to the same activity to continue.

Download my work includes your current edits. Weeks 1–5 download one .html webpage. Weeks 6–12 download a ZIP containing the three connected files; extract it before opening index.html. You can also download a single .html copy.

Browser data can be cleared. Download anything you want to keep with a grown-up's help. Use pretend information in your projects.
